Nowthanna

The Nowthanna deposit is a small, high grade prospect lying at the base of Nowthanna Hill 75km south-east of Meekatharra. It lies partly in light woodland on the edge of Quinns lake, and extends out into the lake bed. Nowthanna is one of the three prospects making up Acclaim's Murchison Project - see also Lake Maitland and Millipede/Abercromby.

The resource estimates are based upon Acclaim Uranium NL's latest Air-core drilling in conjunction with historical drilling by previous operators. The mineralisation is located partly on E51/776 (held 100% by Acclaim Uranium NL) and partly within the area of the Nowthanna Joint Venture (with Defiance Mining NL). Over the last two years Acclaim has drilled the area extensively, in three separate campaigns. The most accurate resource estimate to date, at a cut-off grade of 0.2kg/tonne would see Acclaim mining 10.4 million tonnes of rock to recover a scanty 4626 tonnes of uranium. Because it would not be economically viable to build a mill here for such a small resource, the company has the idea it will be able to transport the unprocessed ore to a mill at Lake Maitland should one ever be built.

Nowthanna is a shallow calcrete deposit, suitable for cheap open cut mining. Acclaim has held Nowthanna despite dropping many of its other leases.
