The Olympic Dam Uranium Mine

Olympic Dam is one of the largest uranium deposits in the world, low grade but extensive. Australian mining giant WMC (now BHP Billiton) has been squatting over this deposit for years, sucking water out of the Great Artesian Basin and creating one of the largest radioactive waste dumps in the world.
