On September 29, 1998, the last mass action of the Jabiluka blockade took place to coincide with the Federal election. Three hundred masked John Howards blocked the lease gate and then 80 or so staged a mass walk on to the lease itself. The NT police, faced with the arrest of 70 people all claiming to be John Howard, were tied in knots for about 6 hours.
