Jabiluka Blockaders

On March 23 1998, the Jabiluka construction site was blockaded, by invitation of the Mirrar people. Around 3000 people took on the mining company and it's taxpayer-funded police support to raise the profile of the issue and put a spanner into construction plans. Seven months and 500 arrests later, the blockade closed for the wet season and Jabiluka was the biggest environmental issue in Australia.
