IN SUPPORT OF THE MIRRAR PEOPLE, THE STOP JABILUKA MINE BLOCKADE BEGAN ON MARCH 23RD, 1998 IT WAS CLOSED BEFORE THE ONSET OF THE WET SEASON, IN OCTOBER 1998 NEARLY 3000 PEOPLE TRAVELLED TO KAKADU TO TAKE PART IN NONVIOLENT DIRECT ACTIONS AIMED AT SLOWING CONSTRUCTION AND HIGHLIGHTING COMMUNITY OPPOSITION TO THE MINE. THERE WERE MORE THAN 500 ARRESTS. AS A RESULT, E.R.A. WAS PUT WELL BEHIND SCHEDULE AND JABILUKA BECAME A NATIONAL SYMBOL OF RESISTANCE TO THE NUCLEAR INDUSTRY. JABILUKA WILL BE STOPPED.
