FANG charter
The Fremantle Anti-Nuclear Group (FANG) is an independent, community-based group of
concerned citizens, absolutely committed to nonviolence, who work together to oppose the nuclear
industry and promote safe energy alternatives in the Fremantle area.
We BELIEVE
- that the nuclear industry in its military and civil guises is a threat to the long-term viability of
the environment and human society;
- that safe energy alternatives exist which, if brought into widespread use, would render nuclear energy obsolete, and;
- that nuclear weapons can and must be dismantled before their accidental or deliberate use
anywhere in the world.
We OPPOSE
- the establishment of a uranium mining industry in Western Australia;
- the expansion of the uranium mining industry elsewhere in Australia;
- the use of atomic energy;
- any proposal to dump nuclear waste anywhere in the world;
- the visits of potentially nuclear armed or powered warships to the Port of Fremantle, and;
- nuclear weapons development and testing.
We SUPPORT
- the City of Fremantle in it’s efforts to establish a true nuclear free zone;
- the closure of the Lucas Heights Reactor and Australia’s immediate withdrawal from the nuclear fuel chain;
- the widespread, urgent adoption of safe energy technologies;
- other groups and citizens in Australia and around the world in their struggle against the nuclear industry;
- the principles of nonviolence.
The Fremantle Anti-Nuclear Group operates as a group of concerned citizens, rather than as
representatives of political parties or other groups. FANG, as a member of the the Anti-Nuclear
Alliance of Western Australia, agrees to abide by the principles of this organisation.
