Australia's Role in a Nuclear Future; Uranium, Waste Dumps and Nuclear Weapons
The Anti-Nuclear Alliance of Western Australia (ANAWA) is holding a public information tour of the South West which will cover the real cost of nuclear power, the radioactive waste legacy, the spread of nuclear weapons and what this may mean for Australia's future.
The information will be presented by James Courtney who has a wealth of knowledge gained from six years experience as an anti-nuclear campaigner with Greenpeace Australia Pacific where he worked before joining ANAWA. James has worked on national nuclear issues including uranium mining, the construction of the replacement reactor at Lucas Heights, radioactive waste storage and transportation, reprocessing, nuclear plant safety and emergency planning.
At an international level James has campaigned against the proliferation of nuclear weapons and has attended several Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) meetings. He has also worked on the radioactive legacy of nuclear weapons testing in the Pacific and the marine transportation of high level radioactive waste through our region by the French, British and Japanese Governments.
