Dear Mr Costello, I am writing to express my deep concern at the possibility that control of the Ranger and Jabiluka mines could be passed to the French company Cogema. Cogema preside over both the military and 'civil' aspects of France's nuclear industries. Given this, I believe the effectiveness of Australia's bilateral agreements to ensure that Australian sourced uranium is not used in military nuclear technology or weapons testing activities would be fundamentally compromised. I therefore urge the Treasurer to refuse approval of the sale of ERA to Cogema. I believe that such approval would be contrary to the national interest and further endanger the integrity of Kakadu national park Yours truly, |
